Reaching out is the the most important step for any awareness plan to be successful. The more people you reach out to the more closer you get to your goal. But reaching out and spreading awareness can be sometimes very tough especially if you have a topic like sexual abuse, which people mostly don’t want to talk about. The moment people you the word ‘sex’, they just get a completely wrong impression about you. The don’t even want to listen further. But they need to know that sexual abuse, especially ‘child sexual abuse’ is a very important topic which everyone needs to open up about. So we are the ones who can make the change but spreading awareness about it and encouraging people to speak up for themselves.
In this journey of my virtual volunteering program, I have reached out to 5 people – 3 of my friends aged 15 years and 2 of my relatives who are parents above the age of 30. The number might seem small but reaching out to even 5 people is challenging.
These are some of the sources I felt were helpful for reaching out:-
